Everything You Need To Know
It is a translucent, brownish, oily liquid with a slight odour that is easily covered in a finished product. The specific microalgae (plankton) are cultured in closed containers with purified water to ensure the purity of the product. Although these microalgae can be harvested in the wild, they would be prone to marine pollution. The finished product is GMO free and preservative free. The Sunflower Seed Oil is to keep the microalgae fluid and pourable and the Vitamin E is added as an antioxidant to protect the product from oxidation.
- Use at 1%.
- Oil soluble, so cannot be used in water only products. It can be used in water based gels where it will be held in suspension.
- It is damaged by heat, so add in Stage 3 (below 40 °C) when making creams and lotions.
- Store below 25 °C but not in the ‘fridge door. Do not freeze and do not shake.

Skin Care
- Algaktiv® Zen significantly reduces wrinkle depth. Studies showed this was up to 15% in just 15 days. Excellent to add to night creams and eye serums.
- Scaly, dry and flaky skin improves, becoming more supple with the use of Algaktiv® Zen. Studies showed a 13% improvement, but this can be added to by using nourishing oils such as Avocado Oil and Evening Primrose Oil. This can be very beneficial in creams and gels for use in rough skin areas such as knees and elbows.
- Skin radiance increased by 10% in trials, making this ideal for use in daily defense creams and facial serums. It blends well with lighter oils such as Rice Bran Oil and White Poppy Seed Oil.
- In the manufacturer’s trials, 90% of the volunteers tested reported a reduction in nervous hand sweat. This benefit can be used in deodorants and hand creams.
- It is non-irritating and non-sensitising so is therefore ideal for use in products for sensitive skin.
- Fragile, thin skin can be improved by blending with Prickly Pear Seed Oil. As well as making the skin more resilient, it will reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Hair Care
- In hair care products it is suitable for use in those with problem skin. Combine with Pomegranate Seed, Sacha Inchi, Brazil Nut, Oat and Meadowfoam oils for a soothing scalp oil.
- Can be combined with Bio Energiser in a light, leave on hair conditioner.
