Product Description
Product Description
Cellulose Gum is a natural thickening agent that forms clear, stable gels with a soft, smooth texture. Cellulose gum is derived from plant cell walls, especially wood pulp, and is also known as carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose.
Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, a modified cellulose polymer, is the main component that gives viscosity and suspension. CMC is produced by reacting cellulose with acetic acid, the main component of vinegar.
It’s great for creating transparent gels, emulsifying creams, and improving the texture of conditioners and shampoos.
This natural gum is a favourite among formulators for its non-tacky feel and long-lasting moisturising finish on the skin. It supports the skin’s moisture barrier and gives a soothing experience when used in leave-on or rinse-off products.
It’s versatile for both skincare and haircare. From hand sanitizers and facial gels to shampoos and hydrating conditioners, Cellulose Gum adds value and consistency to your formulations without compromising on feel or clarity.
How to use it
How to use it
-
You can reduce the amount of Cetearyl Alcohol in your creams when you add Cellulose to your mixture.
-
When a Cellulose Gum Gel is used in combination with 70-99% strength Isopropyl Alcohol it will create a thin clear gel which has a superior skin feel and is less drying than other hydro-alcoholic hand sanitisers.
-
Cellulose Gum can also be used as a thickener for shampoos and conditioners
-
Use 0.1-1%
- Weigh out the Cellulose Gum and add to cold bottled spring water.
- Stir together to mix thoroughly. Keep stirring the mixture for 20-25 minutes continuously to fully hydrate the Cellulose and form a gel. The gel should form after about 10 minutes stirring or less but keep stirring until the 20-25 minutes has elapsed.
-
Place jug with gel in a bain-marie and heat to 70C stirring all the time.
-
Remove from heat and stir whilst cooling. As it cools slowly add the Stage 2 (heat tolerant) ingredients and stir in thoroughly between additions.
-
When below 40C add Stage 3 ingredients and stir in well between additions.
